MD 312 sludge dewatering press

Abbotsford, BC – August 16th 2019. The Trident MD Press is a multi-disc screw press, specifically for sludge dewatering applications. The MD Press lineup includes several models with different treatment capacities. A few days ago we put a video (see below) together featuring the MD 312 model. This press is a dual cylinder machine with a capacity to treat up to 45 gal per minute of sludge. The unit is skid-mounted and comes with a floc tank. With a compact foot print of approx. 12’ x 4’6” the MD 312 is suitable for smaller to mid-size wastewater operations. This model is also very popular for industrial sludge treatment applications. Its two dewatering cylinders can be controlled individually through the optional automation package, allowing redundancy and reducing downtime during maintenance procedures.

Speaking of maintenance: the cassette style cylinder assembly can be replaced in less than a day. Typically, all the maintenance can be performed onsite. This is a huge advantage for operators that otherwise would have to wait weeks or months for their equipment to return from the manufacturer’s service location.

Efficient Sludge Dewatering

Due to the press’ slow-moving operation, the equipment wear is minimal. And this also creates another benefit: the machine processes the flocculated material very gently. In certain applications this can be the difference between successful dewatering or a collapsed sludge floc. We should also mention that the dewatering cylinders have two designated treatment zones. In the first thickening zone the free water escapes through the fine gaps between the discs. The second zone features a different flighting pitch in combination with a different ring design. This helps increase the pressure allowing more liquid to separate from the solids. The effluent tank below the cylinders collects the released liquid. In the case of the MD 312  the tank has two separate chambers that individually collect and discharge the cleaner thickening effluent and the pressate from the second zone.

To apply or increase back pressure and control the cake’s dry matter output, operators can adjust the position of the output plug. Adjusting the auger speed with the optional VFD (variable frequency drive) is another way to control the machine’s performance. But the MD Press is also very versatile. It can accept sludge that is very dilute as well as pre-thickened sludge with higher solids content. And due to its self-cleaning design that effectively prevents clogging or blinding, the unit is also able to process oily or fatty material.

All MD Presses come with an integrated CIP (clean in place) for efficient wash water use. The MD 312’s three motors (2 x screws and 1 x mixer) have 0.5 HP each, ensuring very low electric energy consumption. Consequently our clients are able to run their MD equipment at a very competitive Opex and typically see a return on their investment within a short timeframe.

Sludge Dewatering Applications

The MD 312 is a great option for industrial sludge dewatering applications. In particular in the food processing, manufacturing and livestock sector we have seen great results.
